Inspired by the iconic African music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Goro was birthed by the Royal Calamus Company of Africa in colaboration with Zimbabwean Industrial hemp enterprise, ZimFarma as a tribute to the Afrobeat pioneer’s legacy, with official licensing to create and brand the first line of Abami Eda industrial hemp products from the Fela Estate .

This collaboration leverages the Africa Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA) agreement and Fela’s celebrity equity to demonstrate how Africans can collaborate to innovate and create wealth.Fela was a true visionary who believed in African unity, innovation, and socioeconomic justice and despite the controversies surrounding him untill his death, he remained a relentless advocate for African emancipation and development.
It is not well-known that he used to process cannabis at home using his own creative methods.Fela would turn cannabis into oils what he consumed recreationally and used as his own “herbal medicine”. These oils were kept in small pyrex jars that he would travel with, and he referred to them as “Goro,” possibly after Nigeria’s locally made liquor, known as Ogogoro.

During the research that led to the creation of this brand , we connected dots when we found out that Fela’s mother, the great Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, kept jars of various natural roots and herbs that she used as African medicine in their home while Fela was growing up.

As apples do not fall far from their tree,we believe it is the exposure to his mom’s lifestyle that may have unconsciously or consciously influenced Fela to begin to process and keep his versions of these ‘herbal medicines’ even though his were pyschotropic as they were derived from the high-THC cannabis plant due to his creative and naughty nature.

In order to clean up and somewhat rehabilitate his reputation for smoking marijuana,we are using Industrial hemp to draw attention to other aspects of his personality as a relentless advocate for true African development.Goro aims to highlight the numerous benefits of this non narcotic plant for grooming, health and healing as well as its difference from indian hemp which stood in the way of him effectively passing his core message of total African emancipation to the people.
Through Goro, we seek to highlight the potential industrial hemp has for African wealth creation, innovation, and socio-economic development in today’s green economy. Industrial hemp is the non-narcotic and low THC version of the cannabis plant which we are using to produce high-quality body and self-care products made in Africa by Africans.

We are leveraging the global prominence of the Afrobeats movement (pioneered by Fela) to educate consumers about the authoritative, eco-friendly, and carbon-negative raw material that Industrial hemp is. By doing so, we hope to promote responsible choices and positive environmental stewardship.

Goro products range from CBD oils, body creams, shampoos, conditioners, pain relief balms, beard oils, and many more healthy lifestyle products from the motherland by motherland people.

With Goro, we aim to inspire people to embrace their African heritage and contribute to the growth and development of Africa by supporting sustainable and eco-friendly initiatives.
